Buffy’s Diary

It’s offical — i’ll eat anything!

I didn’t realize that mom and dad actually watch this kind of thing, but it appears they do. And apparently they have officially decided that I will eat anything?  I don’t really see why this is a big idea — besides what better way to engage the world around me and learn what its made up of than to taste it?  Forget stopping to smell the roses, I like to taste them!

See here’s what made mom and dad decide “Buffy will eat anything.”  Last weekend I went to visit the vet.  As it turns out I had a bit of a bladder infection.  Thankfully, Mom and Dad caught it (well dad really, he’s the one that noticed first, Mom was a little slow) early and took me to the doctor right away.  So it didn’t cause me too much pain.

Anyways, I digress.  The vet gave me two medications, one that would help with the pain and the other that would work on fighting the infection.  The vet said that I might not like the taste so gave mom and dad some ideas as to how to get me to take the food.  Sop up the pain meds (they were juice) with some bread.  Wrap the pill in some cheese or put it in peanut butter…. and so on.  Humans are pretty smart, so you probably can think of other ideas too.

But see here’s the thing.  I don’t really understand why they thought i wouldn’t eat the pills.  I have never met something that I haven’t tried to eat — repeatedly, especially in the case of mom’s fuzzy blue slippers.  The first day mom tried to shove the pills down my throat so i couldn’t cough it up.  Or something like that.  Well I only let her get one down my throat.  That was not a pleasant experience.  The next one she dropped and I ate it off the floor before she had a chance to pick it up again.  There was NO way I was going to let her stick her fingers in my mouth again like that.  Since then she just holds the pills in her paw and I lick them right off and crunch them in my mouth!  No trouble.

I am a lab.  Labs are food oriented.  I am a very good lab.  ‘Nuff said.

You know what, Buffy! With human pups, if they hear their Mom or Dad or someone else say that their little pup might not like something, it’s almost automatic the human pup WON’T like it. It’s the power of suggestion. And sometimes they miss out on something that IS good — or good for them! But in this case, it was good you made your own decision — even when an expert human made the comment! You knew your Mom thought it was good and that was what mattered to you! Good for you!
